You cant take it out.. ever.. for more than 2 or 3 hours. If you forget it for 24hours, your piercer can open it back up if you go to them. After 48 hours, it will be totally healed and have to be repierced. Thats what mine told me

I wondered where this topic had gone to. I wanted to stick my two cents in, but never did.
And I see it's probably too old to answer to, but I'm going to anyhow.(yippeeee!!!)
Well, you shouldn't take them out---the layers of the muscles in the tongue keep the hole somewhat out of alignment---it's not like an ear where you're mostly piercing fat and a bit of skin.
So it's not recommended you take out your stud unless your 1) cleaning the stud, 2) having dental work 3) don't want someone in paticular to see it, heh , . . . 4) having ANY kind of surgery-----this is because surgeons stick a metal plate under your back during surgery, in case they have to zap your heart and that stud could burn a little hole in your tongue.
Most people, because of the movement of the layers of muscle in the tongue, can't take out their studs for more than a couple of hours, but I'm lucky I guess because I can take mine out for up to two months.
I went to the dentist a week ago and haven't put it back in. Now, I find I have to slip it in from the underside of my tongue first, let it sit for a while and then reverse. But I admit if it's been a very long time, it really does hurt like a bitch.
You shouldn't take it out except for the reasons I mentioned above and then put it back in as soon as possible-----AND clean it each and every time with a strong solution before you put it back!!!! You can soak it in any number of oral solutions. You have to be more careful of a tongue piercing than most others. (I'm not including genital piercings here as far as dangers go )
God, I love talks of piercing. I have(or have had)----
1) my ears, all the way around(but I removed the ones through the cartiledge)
2) my tongue
3) my eyebrow(had to remove it, damn it)
4) my nose( had to remove it---my cartlige wont heal, BUT I was pretty much the first person in my town to do this HA!)
5) my belly-button
So now all I have is a basic ear-set, a steel tongue stud and a real gold belly-button ring. Someday I want a gold stud for my tongue. The steel ones look like you got a filling in the middle of your tongue.
Sorry about the damn awful spelling. I can't find my dictionary. But I'm incredibly good on care for piercings. If anyone needs advice, ask me.
P.S.---don't do piercings yourself, especially in the belly-button area, nose and tongue. Do not do it.

Honest to goodness question on this subject. I have always wondered but never asked anyone cause well... it is not something you ask people.
But why did you get your tongue pierced? I undertand all other piercings, including nipples and down below. But the tongue seems to me to be there to give someone else oral pleasure. LOL Sorry if I am being a bit crude. So anyways, I don't particularly enjoy giving oral sex, so I would not want to have anyone think that they'll get it from me and a tongue piercing seems to advertise that.
Am I completely off base here and there is some other reason to get one, that I haven't though about because I have a dirty mind?
I know a lot of girls would think it looks good like all other piercings, but has anyone else thought before about the whole oral sex thing?

I had my tongue pierced because I was influenced by a kid, believe it or not. Without going into boring details, I was (trying) to take care of a troubled teen. For some reason she responded to me, but uh . . . there was a trade-off I guess you could say.
No, she didn't ask me to get my tongue pierced----I just did it because I thought this kid was actually kind of neat and she had hers pierced. I had already been sporting some tats for 20 years by this time, but I just "wow, that's kind of cool!" Usually I'm rather conservative in behavior--I don't party, dont' drink, but there are some things I find fascinating as hell. Hung around too many musicians and artists, I guess.
OH! but the oral sex-angle! Well, to be honest with you I never heard of that until a few years ago, when a co-worker asked me if that was why I had had it pierced!
And just to show you how old someone can be and still be a total ignoramous, I was like----> *what the fook are you talking about, man?* to this person---because I had never heard of it. I was a VERY late bloomer; I didn't understand him, even though he flat-out asked. I had been wearing tattoos and piercings since I was a teen but there I was in my 30s(then) and I had never heard of having your tongue pierced for oral sex, heheh.
I just think it looks neat, and of course, it gets attention----> (Haha! I made you look, didn't I?)
P.S.--thank you for talking back to me, gcat, on one of my older posts. The one where I was ranting. I appreciated the kindness and understanding.

it definitly does make oral sex better for the other person! however....if you have an oral fixatiion like myself.......the tongue ring helps me from eating more because theres already something in there so i dont feel the need to eat just to have something in my mouth.
