I am just concerned about my belly button ring. i got my bellybutton pierced around 6 years ago and i had chosen a nice long ring to put in so the hole was long itself after the woman pierced it...if you know what i mean. people who have piercings there would understand.. but i'm going to try to explain anyway...so basically you know how the belly piercing goes from inside the belly button hole and comes out from the top on the other side? well the distance between where it starts inside my bellybutton and where it end (the other end of the hole) on top of my belly button, was wide. it was a long distance coz the belly ring itself i had chosen was long.
anyway recently i'm just noticing that the hole might have gotten shorter...i mean not so recently actually but i guess it might be getting shorter and shorter all the time. i mean at first when i had that long ring in, it was perfect in the sense that only the two round ball parts of the ring would show and the stem in the middle was under my skin. but now if i put that ring on again, part of the stem shows...so the hole there definitely shrunk..and its pissing me off coz i dont want it to become shorter and shorter and then rip! is that possible? is that what happens with these rings anyway? maybe its coz i put on some weight? not in the sense that i got overweight but coz i was 13 when i got it and since then ive grown so maybe that has affected my belly button? i dont know what to do i really dont want to lose it and its already annoying that its much shorter than it was 6 years ago..is it going to keep getting smaller and rip? is this the body's way of slowly and gradually rejecting it? i hope someone can help me, someone who knows what this may be about. thank u so much.

it sounds like it is growing out. It could settle but the chances are that even over a few years it will emmigrate out of the skin. The best thing to do is replace the long bar with a short bar...as catching it is the last thing you want to do if it's growing out. Keep an eye on it, don't let it grow out fully otherwise the scarring will be worse.

The other option, is take it out now, give it AT LEAST 4 months (preferable longer) healing time and get it redone. Piercing scar tissue isn't as bad as it sounds.

Oh yes, getting it done at 13 could have had an impact on the piercing as piercings should not really be done until you're 16 because of growth, however many piercings grow out, practically any can!

Go and get it measured at a piercinf studio. there they should tell you the mm of it. if it is 4mm or smaller take it out. wait for it to heal and get it done again.
