hello

i am 14, and in 10th grade. i lived in nyc and was in 5th grade on 9/11/01. i have been thinking alot about my experiences, and wondering where others were and what they knew, what their reactions were.

please respond to this - where were you, how old were you, what did you know/were told, what was your reaction?

and remember to pray for the people who think that killing is what God wants.

thank you all.

I was in my house, watching the towers fall through my kitchen window.
I was almost 21 at the time.

Surprised Surprised Surprised Surprised Surprised Surprised Surprised Surprised Surprised Surprised Surprised Surprised

I still dont understand how people can think killing is a good thing, and this goes for our government as well.

I had moved from my family in the states to Germany on August 14th to be with my husband (hes army and was stationed here). My furniture was supposed to arrive on September 11th. It was the middle of the day here and I remember I found out by channel surfing and watching live footage of a tower on fire... the woman was talking about how a plane hit it. I ran upstairs to my neighbor's house and told her to turn on the tv and we both watched in horror as the 2nd plane hit. I still cry thinking about what happened. It really hurts me to my soul. I don't think I'll ever get over it.

I never even knew what the WTC towers were until that day. It was ninth grade in high school and around 6 in the morning on the way to school when I found out. I was more confused than schocked because I didn't really understand the impact of what was happening. It is also my friend's birthday, so that was pretty much ruined.

I was at work (in Iowa) just had sat down for that matter. I was running late that morning so I didn't even realize that I hadn't turned on my car radio as I flew down the street completely oblivious to what was going on. I was working for the Symphony as a manager that year. I sat down at my desk, and tried to pull up my morning ritual reading, MSNBC, but couldn't get to it... hrm, weird. Phone rings, it's my assistant on the phone.
Andy says "I'll be there soon, I'm bringing a TV, is that okay?"
"Um, sure, why are you bringing a TV?"

Silence...

"Andy?"
"You don't know?" Andy says
"Know what?!"
"The world trade center was just hit by a plane."
"What are you talking about?" (My mind thinking World Trade Center.. That's in New York I think, some hit it with a plane? that's weird."
"I don't know what's going on, but a plane, oh my god, oh no, oh no... another one... Beth, we're under attack."

That's when it hit, both the tower, and hit my mind what he meant...
I dropped the phone and ran for the radio. The executive director came running out of her office to the front, then came our marketing director... the music librarian ran out the door with her bags saying "I'm going to go get my kids."

Andy comes in to us hovering around the radio, hauling in a portable black and white TV. He turns it on, and the first thing we see is the smouldering towers, both of them, and then it goes to a replay clip of the second tower hitting, the one Andy was watching when he was on the phone with me. The whole office stands there, watching the TV, our hands over our mouths, our hearts sunken so far in our chests that you couldn't feel anything, we were numb. We watched, and watched, and then the first one collapsed, and everyone stopped breathing.

A commotion outside, police and people barricading off a car that had too many parking tickets sitting on it, too close to City Hall.... Nothing was wrong with the car though, but people were really too scared to let anything go.

I remember stopping my car mid traffic on my way home that night and grabbing a special edition of the news reports. I still have all the newspapers from September 11th-Oct 11th. I want my kids when I have some, to know.

I watched TV that night, and cried over and over. Every time I heard sirens, I panicked. I heard helicopters overhead all night for weeks on end. I had horrible dreams every night of being surrounded by military, being under quarentine, wars and death, for almost a year.

I don't necessarily believe what the govt. told us about who was behind it, but that will never deaden the screams and deaths we saw that day.

I was at my then-boyfriends house. School had finished early that day because there was a parent's evening that night, and then his little brother came in and said "my mate just told me that terrorists have flown a plane into the World Trade Centre". His little brother likes winding people up so we laughed at him! He promised he was telling the truth so we turned on the radio and they were talking about it...

So we went downstairs and put the TV on and watched the same footage over and over again until about 9pm, the footage of the second plane hitting and then the collapse...just in shocked silence. My boyfriend had been to NYC the summer before and had pictures of the Trade Centre in his room. It was horrible.

I was in 10th grade 4th period which was accounting class. I remember all the teachers were in the hall talking and everyone was so stunned. I remember looking up at the tv and not understanding what was happening and not even sure where the twin towers were. The teachers told us we would remember where we were when this happened for the rest of our lives.
