I am a bit confuse as to which version of PHP I should install ?

Should I go with PHP 5.x or 4.x ?! Is there advantages to use one instead of the other?

Thanks for your help !

If you have the choice, I think you can go with PHP 5.x .

Don't forget to check the PHP site at : http://www.php.net/ to be sure to get the last version available.

If you are using third party scripts, check first if there is no compatibility problems with PHP 5.x.

Hope it can help,

Just a quick note, MySQL is no longer bundled with PHP 5.x . So if you want to install PHP 5.x with MySQL support, you need to specify the path to the folder where MySQL is installed when you do your ./configure

PHP 5.x is *almost* 100% backward compatible with PHP 4.x... However in practice there may be some modifications to make to 4.x scripts, ... so this is something to consider before choosing. In the other hand some PHP 5.x code are not compatible with 4.x...

I guess it won't help you choose, but this is something which needed to be mentionned.
