Menu Foods packages many, many brands of foods for pet companies. These were the first guys to get tapped for putting out poisoned products. The wheat gluten, used a cheap subsitute for protein by heartless companies, was imported from China and tainted with melamine, a deadly poison used in other countries to kill rats and other rodents and used in the U.S. as a poweful chemotherapy drug.
Cat food products that have been poisoned and are being recalled:

Dog food products:

Others brands that promotes their products as being healthy and "natural" , such as NATURAL BALANCE have also been recalled, containing poisoned rice gluten imported from China.
In visiting Natural Balances's site, please note their FAQs page, which is pathetically worded with calculated and phoney questions aimed at misdirecting the customer.
ANY pet food containing ANY grain gluten (cutely called "protein source") should be avoided at all cost. This includes RICE.
Grain glutens are used to replace MEAT. This is not a new practice, but the amounts have increased over the years. Now, instead of using the product made in our country, deals and handshakes have been made with China to import sub-standard gluten, which is ironically, a waste by-product.
It is not a subsitute for meat. Dogs and cats are carnivores and should never be fed grains.
Pet food companies are owned for the most part by enormous food companies which produce food items for human consumption. It is their practice to deliver "materials" unfit for human consumption to their pet food facilities. This includes diseased meats, parts unfit for eating, ofal scraped from floors covered in animal feces, infected grains that have not been passed for human consumption.
Many vegans and vegetarians feed their animals vegetarian diets. Besides being animal abuse, because the animals develope eventual bone breaks, bone disease, tooth rot and diabetes along with diminushed immune systems, some of these foods have ALSO been recalled.
Check out this site for currect news that will take several days to hit your local news because trust me, your local news doesn't give a shit:

PORK for human consumption has been found! Now it's on the plate of your child. Read it above. The FDA finally got off it's dead ass and has launched an investigation.
Please check out raw food groups for cats and dogs. The popular preppy B.A.R.F. so-called "raw" diet for animals is not proper, healthy or nutritous for dogs and cats. Ingore it. Refer to my other posts on this. Here is a starter group for cats:
