There is no way to remove a tattoo without scarring except by laser. Any other method will leave a lot of scarring, always visible, sometime mutilating, depending on method. I've seen every method done, by the way. Awful.
Laser will leave little or no scar or marks on fair skin. I've seen great jobs done on dark skin, also. The skill of the person zapping you is of the utmost importance.
Like the other poster says, it hurts like hell. At least as much as the original tattoo did, but it's bearable.
I'd like to have my belly-button tattoo lased off someday. The guy who did it owns the biggest store in town; he's famous in my state but I found out the hard way that his artists are brilliant while he totally sucks. It's a horrible tattoo, so poorly-done and so ugly I cried when I got home and it's not like I was a novice at having tattoos.
Someday I'll have it lased off and get a new one.
